Problem when clicking on My Computer

When I click on "my computer" a flashlight starts searching and it takes a
long time to open and show the files/folders. This is a new computer with
pre-installed Windows XP (home edition), I never had this problem on my old
computers. Before, all I did was click on Start, Explore, and everything
opened up showing all files and folders, etc.
Anyone know how I can fix this?
