problem w/ setting up Internet Connection Firewall

(I'm not sure if this is the right newsgroup for this
question, or should I post under Networking and the
Internet??)

I'm trying to enable XP's firewall for a friend and am
trying to follow the XP Help Files:
To enable or disable Internet Connection Firewall Open
Network Connections Click the Dial-up, LAN or High-Speed
Internet connection that you want to protect, and then,
under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this
connection.
On the Advanced tab, under Internet Connection Firewall,
select one
of the following:
To enable Internet Connection Firewall (ICF), select the
Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing
access to this computer from the Internet check box.
To disable Internet Connection Firewall, clear the Protect
my computer and network by limiting or preventing access
to this
computer from the Internet check box.
HOWEVER, when I choose the internet connection (it's dial-
up), I can't get anything to happen when I click on
properties, or on the left side, by clicking on
the "Change Settings" link!

I don't use XP myself, and I really don't feel my friend
needs the fire wall, but she wants it, has heard lots of
people talking about firewalls in the wake of the recent
virus's, etc, etc. She's not on a network at all, and is
maybe connected for a 1/2 hour per day. But, I'm a bit
miffed that I can't get that properties tab open to follow
the rest of the directions!

Any suggestions?

PS-In case it's relevant, she only has one connection, and
it's aol (version 8.0), and it's defaulted, as it should
be since it's the only one. But it always says it's
disconnected even when we are very definitely connected.
And right clicking on it and selecting Connect (or
properties, or etc,) doesn't do anything either.

Thanks!

You may not have permissions on the dial-up connectoid. Try logging onto
the account that created the connectoid. (It might be Administrator.)

If it is an AOL connectoid, then the firewall isn't available.
