problem using a new page size

Hi

Please help. This one is driving me mad.

I have created a new form in the Server Properties for a new cheque layout.
When I print the cheque I select the (network) printer and go into properties
but my new form is not offered in the list. I notice that a lot of other
forms in the Server Properties list are not offered either. What detemines
which forms in the Server Properties list are available for a particular
printer please?

Thanks
Geoff

thanks for that ..... so how then do I 'register' a new form for my network
printer that I can then select for a particular print job?

Sorry, but I don't understand your answer - what is the CUSTOMFORM section
of the GPD or PPD? All I know is that the Server Properties screen invites
the entry of the details and accepts them but does not then offer it when I
go to print. I appreciate your help.

GPD and PPD files are normally provided by printer vendor. These files
contain configuration data on the printer. Since the printer is installed,
you can find this file in \windows\system32\drivers\w32x86\3 directory (on
x86 OS). Open this file in notepad and you can determine if the size of the
page you have defined meets with the specification of the device. From
your initial post, I'd say that your form size does meet this specification.

To try your theory out I went into Server Properties and created a new form
called "A4 Small Test Only" based exactly on one of the few existing forms
("A4 Small") that is offered when printing to that (HP LJ4) printer. I
reckoned that if the original form is within the size tolerances then the new
one must be! But my test form didn't show on the available forms list at
print time ("A4 Small" still did) - so I'm at a loss what else to do. Any
suggestions gratefully accepted.

Excuse my stupidity. I read the original post again. Since this is a
network printer, the form needs to be installed on the machine sharing the
printer, not your local machine.

I installed (you do mean created via Server Properties?) the new form on the
server itself then ran a document from my PC and it made absolutely no
difference - when I dropped down the 'paper size' box in 'page setup' the
form I'd created wasn't there.

Thanks for your continued help.

Delete the connection, then create the connection again. This should get
the form installed for the remote printer.

the form data is in the registry under the server name

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Print\Providers\LanMan
Print Services\servers\SERVERNAME\Forms
