Problem upgrading to XP SP2. ntldr is open or in use....

Hello - I'm trying to upgrade from flat XP Pro to SP2 using Windowsupdate.
Every time I try and run the update it gets to the point in the install where
it does "inventory". About 10 seconds into the load it comes back and tells
me that c:\ntldr is open or in use by another application. Please close all
application. I've tried everything. There are no applications running. I even
went into task manager and shut down as many processes as I could. I booted
with minimal drivers running. This is two days now on this problem. The only
thing that has changed is that I tried to install a Piinnacle video capture
device. It looked like it tried installing some high speed USB drivers. Then
it failed and told me I needed SP2. So I tried to load SP2 and now I gett his
problem. I deleted everything I could find relating to the Pinnacle device. I
also ran through a repair using my XP CD (not recovery console). Same thing.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason

Thanks. I just tried the clean-up utlility and it did not help. I still get
the same error. Thanks for your reply anyway.

I should mention that this is a dual-boot system. I installed 2000 Server on
a separate partition about a month ago. I don't know if that adds any value
to my problem.

Thanks,
Jason

Does anyone have any other ideas for my problem before I go ahead and rebuild
my system?

Thanks,
Jason
