Problem updating driver

Problem with running .exe to install new driver for
Radeon X1600 on a laptop.
Using, '6-2_xp-2k_dd_30152.exe' downloaded from the
ATI site for Windows XP drivers.

I do have the driver running okay. I check and get 'this device
is working properly' under 'ATI Mobility Radeon X1600' in the driver
section.

I get these messages:

INF error
Video driver not found.

Setup was unable to complete the installation.
Try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA
driver before running setup.

I'll reply to myself.
Yes, I found that with laptops the vendor likes
to restrict updates.
I did install the new Catalyst Control Center
but my beloved Scale to Fixed Aspect Ratio (or words to that effect)
option had vanished. I immediately removed it and put back
the old one.
Have noticed that new drivers and other stuff have shown
up since on the ATI customer care page.
Some guy created a program to allow 'modding'.
Not sure if it works with X1600, and not sure
if I should use it.
