Problem ? since updates 3/4 April

I have Xp home with auto-update enabled, so totally up-to-date and "updaye
history" shows all installed no errors.
Strange problem just started - have a CD/DVD rom and CR/DVD RW drives - both
Toshiba - till now, worked fine till now. Both drives are set up as "prompt
for action"
Now - I insert a CD, no "autostart", no prompt - only way to access is via
My Computer.
Strange thing is - both drives display the contents of the previous cd, not
the one inserted - I cannot find a way to "refresh" except by reboot.
Since this action is on both drives, and only just noticed - it may be
coincidence that XP updates loaded yesterday (which requitrd reboot).
Any one any ideas, please? Atlon 64 3500+, no virus.or malware. pC is
otherwise stable.

Stickems.

Try a restore to a date prior to the latest update.

Thanks for the response.
Restored back to 1st April (no significance, just last manually created
restore point) but no difference - cd/dvd drives still will not "autorun" or
offer user choice of action, and still report "previous" cd content.
"Sytem Event" log has a number of "error 7001" entries (service control
manager) and whilst the pc is stable in most respects, am having difficulty
in closing down - needs TWO separate clicks on the "close down" button to
effect shut-down (first click goes part-way, pc remains active, 2nd effectsa
shutdown) Uptodate virus (AVG) and malware ,,,
