Hi guys. I am having a problem to run Windows Media Player to see new
downloaded videos.
I receive the following error when trying to open a .avi file: "Windows
Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for
the inconvenience"
When I click on "see more" it shows that I have a signature problem with a
ModName: xvid.dll file.
I updated my Service Pack 2 and also the last version of the Windows Media
Player. But the problem stays the same.
I also try to download the xvid.dll file from the net and save it in
C:\WINDOWS\System folder, but it was worthless. I still can't see the
videos...
Does any one knows how to solve it???
Thanks a lot.

There is a newsgroup for media player. Peruse the posts there for anything
similar before posting your question. If you need to post make sure you
provide more information and history on this problem. What is the version
of Media Player, has it ever worked, if so what changed between the time it
did and now? What changes did you make to the system in the period? Will
it play other formats?

Hi Rock, I've already perform a post in the Windows Media Player newsgroup
without having an answer yet, thats why i also introduce a post here hoping
to have a solution.
Answering your questions, I had the previous version of WMP before I updated
it to the latest one (the 11th version). Previously and now I can run .mp3
files and also .avi files but when I downloaded new ones, in some special
cases I can't run them because of what i wrote below... I haven't change
anything of my systems. It worked correctly, but with some files this error
occurs...

thxs.

Maybe it needs a codec for those files.

If you haven't done so already, Google search for xvid.dll

Sorry I don't have much expertise in the video arena.
