Problem Renaming Multiple Files in Vista

You can rename multiple files by 1) selec them all from last o first (holding
the Shift key) 2) right-clck to the first one 3) choose rename.

Problem: When I download my pictures and videos, selec them all and assigned
the date to the first one folllowed by a number in parenthesis, Windows Vista
"moves" all video files an leaves the remaining picture files at the end. I
don't like that since I like to organize all pictures and files from digital
cameras renamed in consecutive order according to the time they were shot.
Didn't have a problem like this FOR YEARS when used Windows XP.

It is disheartening to see that you have had the same problem as I now do and
no one has replied to this with a helpful answer. I would just like to second
this problem. Hopefully someone knows what can be done.

I, too, am experiencing the same problem. For years, I could quickly and
efficiently rename a batch of files in XP. When I try this in Vista,
however, files get out of order and it can't easily be rectified. If anyone
has a solution, please post it here. Microsoft: please fix this ASAP. It's
ridiculous for us to pay so much money for an upgrade only to have things
that worked in XP not work correctly in Vista.
