Problem playing DVD with wmp11

I have a dual boot system with Windows XP and Vista Home Premium, both
systems fully updated.

Commercial dvds will not play correctly with wmp11 on the XP system (colours
are incorrect) but does play properly on the XP system. Audio files play
fine with both systems. The hardware is the same for both systems.

My feeling is that the codec on the XP system is not working correctly. How
can I check it and, if necessary, replace it?

As far as I know - Windows Media Player does not come with the necessary
codec/decoder to play DVDs.

What that means is that something on said systems has installed the decoder
to play MPEG2... And it may/may not be the same decoder on both machines.

Did either come with some application like PowerDVD or WinDVD?

Thank you for your response Shenan. I have now fixed the problem by updating
to the latest graphics card driver. Nothing to do with codecs!
