Problem opening files in windows xp

Any time I try to open a file (mp3 or torrent file) on my computer, I
get a popup saying

Windows cannot find 'e:\downloads\xxx.xxx (file name) Make sure you
typed the name correctly ,and try again. To search for a file, click
the start button then click search.

After i hit ok, the file opens.
Dont understand why windows can find file when I double click on
it....
