i have just received an access file with the extension .mdb but when i try to
open it using access 2000 i am prompted to convert it to 2000. after
selecting this option i get the error message "this operation is not
supported for microsoft access 1.x databases".

i have tried using excel to get at the data but it doesn't evenb see the
document so can some one help me open this please.

It sounds as though the file you received was created in a very old version
of Access (Access 1.x was released over 10 years ago) Unfortunately, Access
2000 doesn't include the ability to convert Access 1.x databases. You'll
either have to go back to whoever produced the file and ask them to provide
it in an alternative format (such as an Excel spreadsheet or .txt files), or
else try and get a version of Access 97, which was capable of converting
Access 1.x databases.

thanks. will do
