problem linking tables in split database

I have an Access 2003 database. Two workstations use it from one location
(root on d drive on one of the two computers). I split it and copied the FE
to the other computer. I then linked this remote FE to the tables in the BE
on the other workstation. When I click on any form or query in the remote
FE, I get "Disk or Network Error." When I go back to try the old, unsplit db
from the remote location, it works fine, so the permissions are OK. Why
isn't this working?

If you go to tools>Linked tables manager and look at the drive path where
Access expects to find the BE file, is that path a valid way to get to the
BE from the computer that is having problems? (i.e. does the second
computer ALSO see the directory where the BE is housed as the same location
on its D drive?)

This is similar to the issue that I am having (see next post).

It looks like the key is in the front end. The front end wants to connect
with the back end in the back end's original location, but it can not. Thus,
what we are both looking for, I think, is the way to get into the front end
and reference the new back end location...

Allen Browne and Douglas Steele answered my question in the next posting. I
think their answers may help you...
