problem leaving http:// off address

K

Kasey

I have a problem that just started today. When I type something like
www.yahoo.com into the address bar of the browser, it appears that nothing
happens but finally after about 5 minutes, the browser suddenly goes to
yahoo. If I type http://www.yahoo.com the browser goes instantly.

I had a registry error pop up on restart today but I don't know if it just
started happening after that.

Anyone have any ideas?

Check the below Registry entries vs. yours:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPrefix]
Default="http://"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\Prefixes]
"ftp"="ftp://"
"gopher"="gopher://"
"home"="http://"
"mosaic"="http://"
"www"="http://"

I checked and everything was the same.

Something else I just noticed that is weird....in the status bar of IE at
the bottom.....whenever I mouse-over a link it displays "shortcut to..."
instead of the url that the link points to.

I've run a virus scan and a spyway etc scan....nothing is being found.

Any other ideas?

I've run AdAware, SpyBot and CA's Antivirus software all with the most
current definitions.

Nothing is being found. I've tried uninstalling the latest updates from
Microsoft.....still have the same problems.

I am a web developer and provide tech support to many clients. I promise
everyone that if I can't fix this problem then most of the users of IE out
there are doomed.

For the powers that be who might be listening......I'VE INSTALLED
NETSCAPE!.....AND I'M GOING TO USE IT!

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone.
