"Problem installing this hardware" message in XP when PnP of Camera

T

Tim

Please help if you can,

I keep getting an error message when plugging in my
digital cameras into my Windows XP system. I have tried
2 different cameras (Kodak DC3400 and Canon Powershot
S200) and they both give the same message,

Cannot Install this Hardware

There was a problem installing this hardware:

Kodak DC 3400 Digital Camera
(or the Sony camera)

An error occured during the installation of the device
The required section was not found in the INF.

I have replaced both specific INF and PNF files and it
did not correct the problem.

Something happened with either a QFE install or Service
Pack upgrade because the cameras worked in the past and
all of a sudden now they don't.

Please help!!!

Thanks, Tim

Well, I'm not sure exactly what your doing here. One camera is inbox (Kodak
3400), and the other is not (Canon S200). One uses the PTP class driver, the
other uses a vendor supplied TWAIN solution.

Here is what I recommend:
1. disconnect the camera devices from the computer
2. reboot your computer and then make sure any there are no Kodak or Canon
programs running when you start-up (check Task Manager)
2. uninstall any software that applied to the Kodak and/or Canon digital
cameras
3. reboot
4. a. once you've logged in, power on the Kodak 3400 and plug directly into
your computer (no hubs)
b. otherwise, install the Canon software as directed

*The Kodak should just install all by itself. If it doesn't, then something
has happened to or is affecting your OS.

good luck!
