IIS (5.1) seems to install properly but will not serve pages.
- Explorer reports "Page cannot be displayed" and "500 Internal server error"
- Event viewer reports "The server failed to load application
'/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT'. The error was 'Class not registered'."
Stuff I've already (unsuccessfully) tried:
- Disabling Windows Firewall
- Disabling Norton Internet Security Firewall
- Reboot in Safe Mode
- I'm satisfied that it's not a firewall issue
- Removed and re-installed IIS
- Specifically registered W3SVC.DLL ("regsvr w3svc.dll" from command prompt)
- Checked (Checkkbox) Control Panel -> Windows Firewall -> Advanced Tab ->
Settings -> Web server (HTTP)
- Checked (viewed) Registry Entries - Certain things have an onimous
"(value not set)" data field but I don't know if that is the culprit and
couldn't fathom a guess as to what an appropriate value might be
I have successfully installed / set up / run / used IIS on a number of
other computers so I'm not brand new to this - but not on XP Professional.
I'm running out of things to check and any suggestions would be welcome.
