Problem installing Office 2003 with BCM on Vista Home Premium 64-b

Hi,

I just bought a new laptop with Vista Home Premium 64-bit OS pre-installed.
It also came with a trial version of Office 2007, which I uninstalled in
preperation to install a copy of Office 2003 with BCM that I already owned.
Office 2003 installed normally and I applied the Office SP3. I'm able to
configure POP and SMTP settings and test with no problems. However, when I
launch Outlook, I get a message indicating "Unable to open your default
e-mail folders. Outlook could not start because a data file to send and
receive mail could not be found. To add a data file, such as a personal
folder file, double-click Mail icon in Windows Control Panel." In the 64-bit
OS, the mail icon is located in: Control Panel >> Additional Items >> View
32-bit Control Panel Items >> Mail. This icon provides me access to the
usual configuration panel for Outlook 2003. Unfortunately, the only type of
"Data File" I'm allowed to select is the BCM database. If I attempt to
select the BCM data file and edit the settings, I receive an error message
"the requested operation failed". If I then select "add" to add a new data
file, the only selectable file type that appears is a Business Contact
Manager Database (no .ost or .pst option). If I attempt to delete and re-add
the BCM DB data file, I receive a "Windows host process (Rundll32) has
stopped working" and the Mail configuration window closes. I don't really
use the BCM and only just want to use Outlook 2003 with an .ost so that I can
import the .pst backup from my previous system before it died. Any thoughts
or advice?

Thanks,

- Brad

Ost-files are local copies (cache) of an Exchange mailbox. There is no need
to import anything as the cache is rebuild when you reconnect to the
Exchange server.

At this point, it might be best that you start of with a new mail profile
and configure the mail account type that you need. Afterwards, don't import
the pst-file but simply reconnect it via;
File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...
