Problem Installing HP Printer on Vista

Hi

I am having some problems installing a HP Deskjet 5940 under Windows Vista.
I have run the install file for Windows Vista which I downloaded from the HP
website this Installs the driver and some other HP software OK but it gets
stuck at 96% and won't go any further so I have to restart my computer to
exit the setup.

When the computer restarts I can print documents ok but when I got to access
the HP Solution Centre to change some settings. I get the following error
message "No HP devices have been detected. Solution Center will close now.".
I have contacted HP about this issue and was told several methods of
installing drivers which didn't solve the problem. There latest solution now
has been to shift the blame to Microsoft and tell me to contact them. I don't
belive it is a Microsoft problem but thought I should check on here to make
sure and then I can get back to HP about it.

Does anyone know a way of fixing this so that I can access the HP Solution
Center?

Thanks
Craig

I'm having this same issue as well on the HP L7580 and HP was not able to
assist. It demonstrated similar symptom as yours.

Hi

I had the same problem with HP L7580, HP help was no HELP.

I then did a manual uninstall with the batch utility in HP CD under utilsentries under HKEY Local Machine>> Software>>HP & also under HKEY Current
User>> Software>> HP and also delete HP files & folders under C:\ Usersunder Program file>> Common Files.

Then do a reinstall as per procedure it works. In case the installation
still stalls do a reboot. Pls note you should be logged in as Administatror
other wise it does not work.

It seems that the HP uninstaller leaves some entries that interfere with the
new installation

You are playing with the registry do take a back up. At your own risk.

Try installing in compatability mode for xp sp2
I am having the same problem with officejet pro L7580. Ran through many
fixes with hp but nothing solves the problem.
Please let me know if you find a solution.

Did you uninstall what you already had installed(The wrong HP Driver),
before installing the new vista compatible downloaded driver?

And redo the whole installation process with the printer, whether it is
printer first, driver software second, or the other way around .

And if you have a problem installing the printers drivers setup.exe,
right-click on it>run as Admin.

hope it helps.

Also it's SOP with HP printers to disconnect power and usb cables from your
printer before installing the software and drivers. If you don't, the
installation could well fail.

ive tried downloading it from the site, and using the installation cd, AND
letting windows find a driver/solution, there seems to BE NO correct driver
for HP deskjets for vista! HP says its a vista problem, and microsoft tells
me its an HP problem! should i just go return the damn printer?!

Did you follow Mick Murphy's exact instructions below? With
HP Deskjets the software must be installed before the
printer is connected. You have not indicated that you did
what he advised. Just loading another driver with the
printer connected will not work.
