Hello All

I am trying to boot Windows XP using Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 SP1, My
desktop OS (host) is Windows 2000 Professional. I am having problem in
booting and running Windows XP.
I am following the below steps:
1) Installed Windows XP using Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 SP1 on Windows 2000
Professional (say on G:\ drive of size 7 GB).
2) In New Virtual Machine Wizard I have selected create a virtual machine
option.
3) Specified Virtual machine name, and location on G:\ drive.
4) From Select Operating System Wizard selected Windows XP as OS.
5) Selected “Using the recommended RAM†option for memory.
6) From Virtual Hard disk wizard selected “A new virtual hard disk†option
located in the G:\ drive.
7) Opened Virtual PC console, clicked on settings, for Networking settings
selected “Shared Networking (NAT)†option.
8) Pressed Start, by pressing del key entered in BIOS setting.
9) Selected 1st boot option as CDROM, Hard disk Drive as virtual Hard disk,
Floppy drive disabled and saved the settings.
10) I have inserted windows XP Embedded CD in the CDROM drive for booting
purpose.
11) The windows pre-installation environment begins, and now Windows XP
startup screen can be seen.
12) A blue screen shows for some time and a wall paper appears on the screen.
13) Command prompt opens with heading X:\ i386\systems32\cmd.exe –
startnet.cmd
14) On the screen appears these lines one by one after execution
X:\i386\system32>regsvr32 /s netcfgx.dll
X:\i386\system32>factory –minint
X:\i386\system32>netcfg –v –winpe
Trying to install ms_tcpip…
…done
Trying to install ms_netbios…
…done
Trying to install ms_client…
…done

X:\i386\system32>net start dhcp
The DHCP client service is starting.
The DHCP client service was started successfully.

X:\i386\system32>net start nla
The network awareness service is starting.
The network awareness service is started successfully.

X:\i386\system32>_

System executes all these with the above line on the command prompt and
Windows XP does not boot.
Please guide me to solve this problem, where I am going wrong in the setting
environment for VPC
Also I need to boot Windows XP Embedded on virtual PC, So please guide me
how to boot Windows XPe using VPC.

Best Regards

This looks like you are trying to install WinPE not XP Pro. If you were
installing XP Prom you will be seeing the Windows XP Pro installation
screens. My Windows XP Embedded Supplemental Toolkit, shows how to get XP
Embedded running on Virtual PC 2004.
