I had a PC running on Win XP and I was using MS Outlook as my email client. I
recently bought a new PC with Vista and I want to use Windows Mail as my
email client. I copied the old Outlook PST file into a USB thumb drive and
tried to open in Windows Mail but unable to open.

After reading the threads here, I realised that my new PC must have Outlook
loaded first before I can import. I tried to download the MS Office 2007
Trial program but I had an error:

"We are sorry, we are unable to complete your request. You are attempting to
submit an order without any items in your shopping cart. Please try again."

Firstly, how to get a copy of the Office 2007 program? Secondly, is there
any other way to import from Outlook 2000 to Windows Mail?

All help is appreciated.

The Office 2007 Trial version is how you go about it, if it won't download,
its probably due to the download server; try again a little later.
Alternatively, you can move all your data from Outlook to Outlook Express on
the old XP machine, then import the OE .DBX files into Windows Mail:

How do I back up my files and settings?

Hi Hal, thanks for the advice.

Why does WM recognise Outlook Express .DBX file and not Outlook file .PST?

WM is Vista's version of Outlook Express. Outlook is a totally different
email program, and uses a different development team than the
OE/WM/WLM team. Microsoft doesn't really want Outlook users to
downgrade to a free email program.
