Hi,

In a last 3 days i have tried to generate a bootable CD-ROM image, but
i have some problems.

I use a Win XP Professional box, with 2 HDs(1st(master) 17,3Gb NTFS
with Win XP and Emb tools and 1.3Gb unallocated, 2nd(slave) 650Mb
FAT16 for the XP Emb image and 18,04Gb unallocated) on the first IDE
and the CD-ROM Drive on the second IDE as master.

I have followed the documentation on the XPE and some tips that i have
seened on the group, but i stil having problems.

My image work as well when i boot from the 2nd HD, but when i generate
the image to burn on my CD-ROM(first the image Pre-FBA, boot and run
FBA and ETPREP, and finaly the boot image) this dos not work.

When i try to boot from CD-ROM i see the boot menu, to choice boot
from CD or from the HD.
If i chose HD, evreting Ok, but if i chose CD apears this message:

"Windows could not start because of computer disk hardware
configuration problem.

Could not read from the selected boot disk, check boot path and disk
hardware."

The boot.ini file burned to CD is this:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Normal Boot" /fastdetect
multi(1)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Boot From CD-ROM"
/fastdetect

My CD-ROM drive is master on 2nd IDE.

I have tried all combinations Using the boot.ini from my Win XP Pro to
try boot from the CD, but all times i see the same message.

Any idea?
TIA

Hi Heidi, tnks for the quickly answer, but...

I have tried this, again.

I have changed my boot.ini on my 1st HD to reference the ARC path that
you refered, but it show me the same message.

I can refer from boot.ini on the Master HD on 1st IDE to boot from
CD-ROM on my 2nd IDE, correct?

Any other idea?
TIA

Heidi Linda said:
I could be wrong, but I think the problem is your boot.ini.

If you're trying to boot to the secondary master, IIRC the
ARC path should be
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Boot From CD-
ROM" /fastdetect
multi IIRC is for SCSI not IDE, rdisk counts from 0 and
partition counts from 1...this is however just off the top
of my head, and as I've just had a big dinner, i'm nodding
off, so I've not checked.

Brad,

Realy, i can´t see any file using the Windows Explorer on
the burned CD, but, i have a copy of the generated image
on the partition, to check the configuration and many
other thigs about my customisations.

Any other idea?

Any way, tnks for the indication of the software to
explore the ISO file.

This is the dump created using HD2ISO from the image
burned on my CD.

ISO-9660/ElTorito image dump for c:\xp_pos_fba.iso

Roberto,
The boot.ini file burned to CD is this:

I think this may be your problem. If the El-Torito CD is created correctly
you should not be able to see a file system structure. The disk should
appear to be blank. Are you using HD2ISO to create your Pre-FBA, and
Post-FBA CD's? If not search the docs for HD2ISO and follow the instructions
listed there on creating your CD. If you need a utility to mount ISO's to a
phantom CD-Rom drive to make copying easier check out daemon tools on
xpefiles.com. It's listed under development tools. With Daemon tools you can
mount the ISO, and do a CD-to-CD copy using your favorite CD burning
software, and specify the "phantom" CD-Rom as the source. HTH,
