Problem enabling ICS

Jaime Stuardo

Hi all...

I have Windows XP Professional with SP1 installed on a PC. This PC has a DSL
Internet connection and other computers in my LAN need to connect to
Internet through this computer.

These are the configurations for the server PC and for one client PC:

--------- SERVER PC (which is connected to Internet) ---------------

1.- Operating System: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1 with all other
patches installed
2.- Two network cards. One is connected to a DSL modem and the other to a
HUB
3.- In ICS configuration options:
3.1.- "Allow other network users to connect through......" is checked.
Home networking connection is set to "LAN" (that is the name for the LAN
connection connected to the HUB)
3.2.- "Establish a dial-up connection whenever....." is checked
3.3.- "Allow other network users to control or disable......" is checked
4.- Both NIC's have static IP addresses (192.168.1.1 for the one connected
to the DSL modem, and 192.168.0.1 to the one connected to the HUB)
5.- I have created a new connection named "Manquehue Net" which was placed
in "Broadband" section.
6.- I cannot use the Network wizard because at the end, it displays a
message saying that an error occurred, so that I need to set it up manually.
7.- I didn't use automatic IP since that way computer is very very slow when
booting (it spends a lot of minutes trying to resolve the names)
8.- This information is shown by IPCONFIG /ALL command when Internet is
connected:

PING command works, and I can browse through the other computer, so the LAN
connection is good.

I tried to set the default gateway in the client PC to 192.168.0.1 but it
didn't work either.

Any help will be greately appreciated.

Thanks in advance

One the clients, you need to configure the gateway to 192.168.0.1 and set
the DNS server to 200.74.160.103

There shouldn't be an problem with using automatic addressing on such a
small network and it will set up the total configuration for you. To do
this all LAN connections should be set to automatic before you enable ICS.

But it is a problem to use automatic addressing.

Some time ago I had the same problem (the big delay when booting the PC) and
someone here adviced me to use statis IP addressing. I did so and no longer
delay.

The DNS is automatically assigned by my ISP.

Or do you mean I have to use automatic addressing in the client computers?
