Problem download

Has anyone had problems downloading Ad-Aware definitions after upgrading to
IE7? I have been unable to update them since around the time I moved from
IE6 to IE7. My ISP feels this is the problem, but I doubt it. And I don't
want to go to all the fuss of removing IE7 and trying to find IE6, assuming
it's still available. I've tried everything Lavasoft has suggested, but to
no avail. Everything else works. Any suggestions?

You should post your question in the IE7 newsgroup *after* you spend
some time reading through the posts there. The IE7 newsgroup is:

microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

There are a huge number of posts so it would be smart to start by going
to Google Groups Advanced Search. Use a search term that describes your
problem, constrain the search to the IE7 newsgroup and the date to very
recently.

And no, I'm sorry but I don't have your answer or I would tell you
now. ;-)

Hello Allen:
Try this fix (according to Lavasoft):
C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE Personal. In this folder delete the
defs.ref and if present the def.ref.old files then try updating again. It
worked for me.
Good luck,
Fred

Thanks for that. I had not been able to find an appropriate website, but now
I have, and I think it has already solved my other problem about some screens
not loading properly. I'll check further, but I really don't think that IE7
is causing my problem with Ad-Aware, despite what my ISP says. If I find the
answer, I'll certainly pass it on.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I'd already tried deleting the 'defs.ref' file,
but that made no difference, so I've put it back. Lavasoft also suggested
that if all else fails, I perform a manual update by downloading the latest
definition file in a 'zip' format, but I don't know what that means, nor
where to obtain it. Any suggestions?

Hello Allen:
Lavasoft seems to have a problem downloading updates. I've looked at their
Support Page and saw others having the same problem updating. However, when I
checked for updates today I was able to download the new definition file
SE1R131 09-11-2006. Give it a try. BTW, is your core application 1.06r1?
Cheers, Fred
