Problem deleting messages on Outlook

Am trying to delete messages in my Inbox. The delete
button and 'Delete' function under the Edit are returning
the error message --' the messaging interface has
returned an unknown error. If problem persists, restart
Outlook.

I've restarted several times including a full system
shutdown.

Clear your Deleted Items folder and in case you are working with a pst-file
also run Compact Now and scanpst.exe against it to check it for errors. Then
try again.
