Problem creating F.A.S.T. wizard CD

I have just bought a new computer which came with XP preinstalled (there is
no XP CD with the computer). The F.A.S.T. wizard is supposed to be able to
create a wizard CD that I can use on my old computer, but when I get to the
"Do you have a Windows XP CD?" screen, the option "I want to create a wizard
disk in the following drive" is disabled. I can't understand why my CD-DVD
drive is not recognized in this list. Can anyone shed any light on this?

The how-to article in the MS knowledge base does say to insert a "formatted"
disc into the desired drive ... could it be that I'm having this problem
because the drive is empty, or because the CD is blank? How do I format a
blank CD?

Hi Umpiredice,

F.A.S.T does not support CD drives (for creating a Wizard disk). You can use
a formatted floppy disk, or any other removable media, such as USB
stick/thumb drive. The Wizard disk actually contains FastWiz.exe and it's
supporting files compressed into a single .cab file.

Thank you, Ramesh. That's a bit unfortunate, in that my new PC doesn't even
have a floppy drive, so I guess I'll have to go buy a flash drive. Is there
any particular reason why F.A.S.T. doesn't support creating a wizard CD?

If/when I put the wizard onto a flash drive, is there any restriction on
using that same flash drive to hold the data I want to transfer from my old
computer?

Thanks again.
Mark.

Mark,

For the 2nd question: Yes, you can use the same disk to store the data file.
When I tried a USB flash drive with data loaded already, the Wizard did not
erase the existing data.

The option "Create a wizard disk in the following drive" is grayed out when
using the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard:
