Problem converting video files

I took video with my Sony DVD Handycam using DVD-RW. One disk I used Windows
Movie Maker without difficulty. The files went into collections and I made my
video from all the clips on the DVD. Now, I have another disk that I"m trying
to do the same thing with. The disk has the movie file saved as a VRO file.
This file type will not import into collections on movie maker. I can view
the first few minutes of the video using DVD player software, but I can't get
it into movie maker to edit in any way. I have no idea why this second disk
is different from the first disk. Help!!!

I downloaded Quick Time Alternative and Streamclip. Now, I tried to convert
to AVI and get an error message saying that it can't creat the file. None of
the convert to a file type options will work.
Streamclip does open the video and will play it, but will not in any way
convert to a useable file type.
Suggestions?

Maybe the info in the articles I previously
posted would be a good place to start.
