Problem Converting powerpoint files from 2000 to 2007

I have many powerpoint presentations that were created in Powerpoint 2000
that had movies incorporated into the presentations. When I open them in
Powerpoint 2007, the movies don't play and their is just a static image.
What is the problem? The presentations will still play if I use office 2000
- so I know that the supporting files are there.

It's probably because powerpoint cannot find the movies.

see
Sounds/Movies don't play, images disappear or links break when I move or
email a presentation

Just re-inserting them will normally sort out the problem.

I suppose that is the answer...however the presentation (ppt) file was in the
same folder as the movies (or vice versa). The movies had been unpacked and
had played correctly before I installed office 2007. Somehow, Powerpoint
2007 lost the links to the files.

I have several "packed" talks stored on a home computer. I unpacked these
talks to a computer using office 2000 and had no problem with the movie links.

I then unpacked these same talks on the computer with Powerpoint 2007. The
movies don't play!!! However, they do show the first frame of the movie as a
picture on the powerpoint slide. It seems to me that the only way that the
first frame of a movie could be displayed in powerpoint 2007 is if powerpoint
found the movie! These movies are all in the "avi" format. Very weird
behavior and necessitates a huge investment in time to get them to work
properly in 2007.
