Problem changing the product key in windows XP with SP2

hi,
i want to change the product key on a computer that we bought from DELL to
our windows volume licencsing key. i used the instruction that were on
microsoft website

SP1-based computer"), but it did not work.

the version of windows on the DELL computer is windows xp with SP2
our version of windows which is a volume licencing is XP with SP1.

can any body help me

The method described to change the Product Key works only if you are
changing from one VL key to another VL key. You're attempting to change
the Product Key of an OEM installation to that of a Volume Licensed
installation, and this cannot be done.

Product Keys are bound to the specific type and language of CD/license
(OEM, Volume, retail, full, or Upgrade) with which they are purchased.
For example, a WinXP Home OEM Product Key won't work for any retail
version of WinXP Home, or for any version of WinXP Pro, and vice versa.
An upgrade's Product Key cannot be used with a full version CD, and
vice versa. An OEM Product Key will not work to install a retail
product. An Italian Product Key will not work with an English CD.
Bottom line: Product Keys and CD types cannot be mixed & matched.

You'll need to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade)
installation, using the VL CD and Product Key.

He'll need a slipstreamed version of his VL to bring it up to SP2, as he
stated the Dell OEM is SP2 and his VL is SP1, before an In-Place upgrade can
take effect. As current state, it'll state the version on the PC is newer
than the version he wishes to install.

He may want to uninstall sp2 from his oem version too, as if he insert the cd
he may be blocked by a message telling that the vl is an older version
