Problem causing a serious error - "Windows cannot find . . ."

J

JoruZ

Hello. For months now, if I let my computer stay on without any activity
(surfing net, using programs, playing games, etc.) for 45 minutes a serious
error occurs which stops Windows XP. A reboot is required to get the
computer running again. I don't know what's causing it, but I got the
following error message below:

Windows cannot find
'http://oca.microsoft.com/resredir.a...a839d7ad&LCID=1033&OS=5.1.2600.2.00010300.2.0'.
Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a
file, click the Start button, and then click Search.

Any knowledge of how to fix this would be appreciated.

The first thing is to use the event viewer to see what it says has happened.

Background information on Stop Error message:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms795746.aspx

0x0000007E: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
A system thread generated an exception which the error handler did not
catch. There are numerous individual causes for this problem, including
hardware incompatibility, a faulty device driver or system service, or
some software issues. Check Event Viewer (EventVwr.msc) for additional
information.

The timing of the error i.e. after the computer has been running for
some time may be significant. It could be heat related.

Is the computer a desktop aor a laptop?

Dust inside the computer casing can cause overheating and result in this
type of error. Take the casing off and use an Air Duster to clean. Also
check that all fans are working.

Try HD Tune(freeware) as you can see the SMART
information relating to the drive etc.

Download and run it and see what it turns up.
http://www.hdtune.com/

Select the Info tabs and place the cursor on the drive under Drive
letter and then double click the two page icon ( copy to Clipboard )
and copy into a further message.

Select the Health tab and then double click the two page icon ( copy to
Clipboard ) and copy into a further message. Make sure you do a full
surface scan with HD Tune.

You need then to test the RAM. Please refer to the link below on how to
do
this.

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What
drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.

Hope this helps.
