Problem authenticating Microsoft Windows Installer

Hi! My Norton Internet security subscription expired the other day and so I
went onto the online store to renew my subscription, When there i was offered
the chance to upgrade to Norton 360, this I chose to do and downloaded the
setup program to my desktop. On clicking the icon that was placed on the desk
top a splash screen appeared which announced that it was extracting files,
after a few seconds an error box appears with the following message;

Error: "Setup cannot be installed because there was a problem authenticating
your Microsoft Windows Installer"

Symantec produces a web page to help but the fix tool isn’t compatible with
Vista.
Symantec is adamant that it is a Windows problem and not an incompatibility
issue with their product, I have spoken to their tech guys but they all seem
geared up to fix XP and 2000NT issues and not Vista!

I am running Vista Home Premium; like millions of other people, surely this
has occurred before?

Please help someone

Thank you

Wiggy

Do you have the option of extracting the contents of the file to a folder
then right click the Setup file and click 'Run as Administrator'?

Not trying to be a smart-aleck, but you'd be way better off without Norton.
Avast and AVG are both free, and they don't interfere with the computer's
operations. Updates are a snap, too.

No I don't have the option of extracting the file to a folder, have been
messing around with this for days now, am thinking of trying to get a refung
from symantec

Hi, Guess what, I have the same problem. Same run around. Took your
advice and now using avast home edition. No problem down lodaing or
installing. Works fine.
