Problem Adding HP Laserjet 1010

Hi,

I have just upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows XP Pro,
all went well except I cannot install my printer.

I have an HP LJ 1010 which was working perfectly under
98, no problem.

Under XP it identifies it as 'Generic IEE 1284.4
Printing Support'. Every time I turn the machine on, it
says it found new hardware, IEE 1284.4 etc etc.

I install the printer driver either by usin the .inf file
from the HP install disk or by running the full install
process from the HP disk. Either way, it copies all the
HP files etc and seems to get all the way to the end and
fails.

I get the Microsoft Problem report.
'Spooler Subsystem App
Spooler Subsystem App has encountered a problem and needs
to close.'

The error signiture is:
szAppName: spoolsv.exe
szAppVer: 5.1.2600.0
szModName: unknown
szModVer: 0.0.0.0
offset 00000000

Techincal Info
c:\docume~1\Username\Locals~1\Temp\WERFB.tmp.dir00
\svspool.exe.mdmp
c:\docume~1\Username\Locals~1\Temp\WERFB.tmp.dir00
\appcompat.txt

I have let it send the report to Microsoft, however I
need to print fairly urgently, so if anyone else has had
a similar problem or knows of a way round this, please
please post a reply.

By the way, I have searched the KB but to no avail.

Thanks in advance,

Neil

Cari,

Thanks for the KB article, I have tried that but I still
have the probelm.

There are no Lexmark or other services that I can see
that could be causing the problem. I also went through
the registry and removed all other keys as described in
the article, but to no acail.

Thanks for the comments though.

Any other ideas would be welcom from yourself or anyone
else.

Thanks,

Neil

By the way,

I did get the printer working by using the HP Laserjet
driver within XP.

However when I try and run the LJ 1010 Driver from the HP
disk, which is for the printer and XP, the error occurs.

I think it could be a fault in the driver, however I also
dowloaded the latest one off the HP Site. Surly if it was
the driver, others would have the same problem.

I an lost on this one!

Neil,

I am having the exact same problem after upgrading from WindowsME to XPPro.

I was able to get the printer installed by removing the LJ1010 software after the upgrade. I was receiving an error about a missing RPC Server. So I started the RPC locator service and it then allowed me to add the printer. I also completed the steps listed in the note 324757. I am connecting the printer via USB.

I am constantly getting the Spooler SubSystemApp message still, occasionally locking up my PC. An now the printer has disappeared.

I have been using the HP provided driver, but will try the Windows provided version.
