Andy G.

When I check on either the express or custom option for windows updating, I
get the following message 'The website has encountered a problem and cannot
display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might
help you solve the problem. '

The options don't help. I did make sure that 'background intelligent
transfer service' was both on and set to automatic.

Other suggestions? Thanks.

Look in the System log of Event Viewer for Error and Warning reports for
the time updating Windows failed. Post copies here.

Restart your computer and note the precise time the Error occurs. Let
the
computer complete loading Windows and then look in Event Viewer for an
error report firstly on the System tab and if not there on the
Application.
Don't be fussy over a minute or two but ignore any messages from before
you restarted. Please post a copy here You can access Event Viewer by
selecting Start, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer. When researching
the
meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and
Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;enus;308427&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message(email) and do a paste into the body of
the
message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after
exiting from Event Viewer.

If you find nothing in Event Viewer open the WindowsUpdate.log using
Notepad and copy / paste the last 10 lines of the log here.

Hope this helps.
