Probably O.T. but ..... ?

Thanks for reading this post.

My laptop a Compaq Presario 1200xl-103, processor 450MHz with overall memory
of 160mb (32Mb system & extra 128Mbinstalled) 40Gb HD and running XP.

What I want to know is, will it be powerfull enough to run a DVD ROM if I
can find one to fit, as I'd like to watch films when I'm away from home, or
would I be better off buying a dedcated DVD player?

Thanks.

me thinks it will be very jumpy with frame loss, youir cpu is prett
poor and you have just above bare minimum to run xp well...

up to you in the end though..

You do not have sufficient RAM to even run XP properly, which should be a
minimum of 256mb. Adding a DVD drive would task it even more. Increasing
your RAM to 512mb would solve your problem if your motherboard can support
it. DVD players are not cheap either.

Yes it will run it but you'll want to make sure that you have an extra
battery pack or one of the double battery packs if it's available for your
model of laptop. As for getting a second dedicated device do you really want
to lug around yet another case?

You can't play DVD movies satisfactorily on a machine that slow. The result
would be stops, hesitations, starts, etc. - with long pauses in between. You
would definitely not enjoy it.

Thanks for all the replies, I'll give it a miss and lookout for a cheap
portable DVD player.

BTW for anyone else with a low spec machine like mine, XP runs just fine. I
though 128Mb RAM was the minimum but 256Mb recommended. My laptop runs much
better than it ever did with W98 etc but I have also installed a larger
faster HD which also helped alot.

Thanks again for the replies.

Cheers.
