private files

I have been trying to make user files private using the following instructions
To make your folders private
Open My Computer.
Double-click the drive where Windows is installed (usually drive (C:), unless you have more than one drive on your computer).
If the contents of the drive are hidden, under System Tasks, click Show the contents of this drive.

Double-click the Documents and Settings folder.
Double-click your user folder.
Right-click any folder in your user profile, and then click Properties.
On the Sharing tab, select the Make this folder private so that only I have access to it check box.
But the box for marking private is grey and will not accept an x. I have tried making the drive NTFS format and that did not work. Any suggestions? I am using a sony laptop

I tried that as well. It just does not work. Someone askes that question I guess almost every day and the answere is the same as well every day. But that does not make it work.

I am considering to move away from XP Home. XP Pro or 2K (Pro) works better. Or Linux may be fine as well ;o)

So ... anyone got a really good WORKING idea???

Is the file in your own profile?
You can not make a file private unless it is in your profile.
