Printing/Spooler Service issue

I have a WinXP Home pc in which the spooler service subsystem seems to
be corrupt. I tried connecting 2 Lexmark printers and a Canon and am
unable to install or print (after previously being able to). If I
manually start the service, I can see the installed printers but upon
looking at the properites or trying to print a test page, the spooler
svc stops again. I have tried expanding and reinstalling (or i should
say i HAVE replaced) spoolss.dll and spoolsv.exe and i still am
getting the same errors. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
