Hi,

I am trying to print from a Dos based programme run on a
winxp o.s. to a shared printer. The Dos programme
requires lpt3 to be used when printing. I've tried using
the net use command but I am told that the name is already
in use.

I've tried downloading DevCon.exe but I am having problems
installing. Upon installation a command prompt box
flashes up for a second and then dissapears. I think I
would be able to solve this problem if I could get DevCon
to run.

I'm not sure if I'm posting this to the right group but
any help would be greatly appreciated....I'm having a real
headache with this one.

Thanks
Julia

In a command command prompt box... do a "net use" to see what devices
connected. You'll see LPT3: (based on what you say above). do a "net
use lpt3: /delete" to remove it. use the net use command again to add it
back in.

I don't know what devcon is. you should be able to control the lpt
device without resorting to special software.

you can use the print manager in control panel to do same to do same re
assiging to lpt ports.

Thanks Rod that sounds like it should work....for some
reason the net use command isn't working. I think I must
be doing something wrong

Permissions issue, then?

Possibly, although I was logged in as the same user when I
used the net use lpt3.....etc command and that worked no
problem. So I'm not sure what it is
