printing page numbers

I run Windows XP-Home. I have a large document in Word.
It prints out fine. I tried to add page numbers using the
Header-Footer method and then the Page Number method. The
numbers appear on the page in print Layout view with both
methods, but the numbers do not appear on the printed
page. Any suggestions?

Ensure that the position of the headers and footers is not in an unprintable
area of the page (ie the margins)
