Printing on 5.5(w)x8.5(l) size paper

I have changed to HP 4300 printer and the only way I can get the occasional
memo size paper (5.5x8.5) feed into the machine straight is to slide the
guides toward the middle to accommodate a 5.5" size paper. Word however
doesn't recognize that the paper is not being feed as an 8.5" sheet. I have
defined it under Page Setup as Custom size, 8.5"x5.5". Is there anyway to
get Word to recognize that the paper is being feed in the middle of the
feed?

Thanks,
Craig

Unless the printer has a paper definition for Statement paper, or you can
define one through the printer Properties, you will not be able to use this
"custom" size. You will instead have to set up your document as if it were
on Letter paper, adjusting the margins accordingly.

But you should be able to define a new paper size in the 4300 (I can on my
4100). In Word's Print dialog, click Properties... and select the Paper tab
in the dialog. Click on Custom... and set up your custom size (but make sure
you don't leave it set as the default paper size). If you don't find this
setting, go to Start | Settings | Printers, select the LJ 4300, right-click,
and choose Properties. This will give you a dialog with more options (you
may find the dialog you just saw by clicking Printing Preferences on the
General tab or Printing Defaults on the Advanced tab). In order to define a
new size, you may have to delete one of the built-in ones, but chances are
there are some you never use.
