Printing Issues after W2K Patch

F

Fred Yarbrough

We started seeing issues today with our Windows 2000 users printing to Dell
5100 and 5300 printers. The issue appears to be related to the recent W2K
patches that were deployed via our SUS and WSUS servers. Has anyone else
out there had any problems?

Thanks,
Fred

The problem is with the Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
(KB891861).

Remove this Windows update and reboot. Things work fine now for our users.

Thanks,

I have just the same problem! We have about 70 PC's who is not working
very fine today because of this issue with the Rollup Patch and Dell
printers. I tried to contact Dell about this, but they don't understad
a shit!

I hope Dell got aware of this problem, and that they will ship a new
driver ASAP.

But thanks, I tried to uninstall the rollup on one computer and printer
come up just fine!

I called Dell yesterday and they basically did not do or know anything. I
suspect that the Dell printer driver alters some Windows 2K system DLL that
the patch overwrites. This then nukes the printer driver. In any case,
removing the MS Rollup patch seems to work for us.

I am also having this problem. But we don't run Dell anything. It seems to
affect windows 2000 pro client computers that connect to a shared printer on
either a server or workstation. Has anyone found any info on a fix, other
then uninstalling the 2000 rollup.

Hi,

Maybe this one applies:

Users cannot print after you install a service pack or printer
hotfix on a server

I have a very small LAN with only 2 W2k boxes and a mix of W95 and W98.
All was fine through the SP4 rollup patch installed a couple of weeks
ago when the change from W98 was begun. Last week the most recent,
approx. 6, updates were installed and at that time W2k will print 1
session after rebooting but will not print additional sessions to a
shared printer. The message comes back that the printer is "not
responding." The W98 boxes continue to work with the same printers.
One on a W95 shared box and the other on a fully updated W98se shared
box. Later this week I will be trying to remove recent updates one by
one to see if I can identify the problem file. Till then if there are
any suggestions or if someone has already narrowed it down I would
appreciate any comments.

BTW I have tried writing directly to a Canon i860 and S750 with no luck
and typically use the Fineprint buffer from www.fineprint.com as my
default printer prior to sending the report to the physical network printer.

We had the same problems with the printing functionality in word and other
aplications that captures printing preferences when they start. We have
lexmark printers, and I upgrade the firmware and drivers at the server and
nothing happens. it's an incompatibility issue between windows 2000 latest
patches and printing drivers

The only thing that worked for us so far, is the uninstall solution of the
w2k security rollup released recently.
