Printing Forms

I have a need to print some records through a form. All the info I want to print is contained in the detail section of the form. Yet, when I try to print the form I get a number of blank pages along with the info in the detail section. It appears that I may also be printing other nonvisible sections of the form, i.e. the header and footer sections, in spite of the fact that they contain no information. Is there a way to "turn off" the printing of these sections. Also, related to this, I have other forms in my database that I print records through where this is not an issue. Why do some forms print just what is contained in the detail section and others print additional blank pages. Am I missing something simple here?

Nick,

First of all, I would recommend considering making a report for the
printing/presentation of your data. This is what reports in Access are
for. Whereas it is theoretically possible to print a form, this is not
primarily the purpose of forms, and the functionality re printing is
therefore limited.

I can't think specifically of the reason for the blank pages. One thing
to look at would be the width of the form as compared with the width of
the paper.

I have been told that by others in a discussion group, but for my particular case, a form seems easier to design a particular look for - my form is an awards certificate that will be printed for every record in a particular table. Also, I did attempt to convert this to a report, but faced the same problem. The report also printed extra blank pages. I believe this is happening because I'm printing these as LANDSCAPE and not PORTRAIT. This makes the setion width wider than the paper's width. While this does not seem like it should be occuring, I do get a message that says the "...section width is greater than the page width...". Apparently, Access is not taking the LANDSCAPE page setup into account when printing these. Any way around this?

If you have the Page Setup setting to Landscape, then just check the
Margins. Don't forget that the paper width and height has to be more
than the section width and height *plus* the tob, bottom, left, and
right margins.

Not wishing to flog a dead horse, but the point about using a Report
seems even more pertinent now I know this is an award certificate. I
shudder at the thought of trying to do with a form something which would
be so much easier with a report.

not exactly sure what your are doing but you might try a
trick a friend told me about.
do a print screen of the form with the info you want in it.
paste into paint. clean/doctor it up and print that.

Good suggestion. You might also want to bear in mind that Forms are
designed for onscreen viewing, not for printing; for example, if you
have Subforms they will almost surely not print as you would wish them
to. It's worth the effort to create Reports for printing; you can save
a Form as a Report to get the bulk of the work done.
