Printing Changed-line bars

I'm currently using MS Word 2003. Previous version of work allowed the user
to print a version of a changed document that was the "final" document with
the vertical changed-line bars. As a technical doument writer, this feature
is very important to me, yet I have been unable to duplicate this in Word
2003.

All help will be greatly apprecited.

thanks.

Set the formatting for Insertions to "(none)" and the formatting for
deletions to "Hidden." You'll need to delete comments (or at least uncheck
them on the Show menu). Then print from the Final Showing Markup view.

I'm not sure what to say -- this has changed very little in the last three
versions of Word.

- You must make the changes while Track Changes is turned on, or use the
Tools > Compare Documents tool to prepare the changed document.

- In Tools > Options > Track Changes, set the options:
Insertions: (none)
Deletions: Hidden
Formatting: (none)
Changed lines: "Left border"
or "Outside border" (if different odd/even pages)
Use balloons: Never

- In Tools > Options > Print, make sure "Hidden text" is not checked.

- On the Reviewing toolbar, set the view to "Final showing markup".

You may have some problems with changed lines in tables or in multicolumn
text. AFAIK there are no workarounds for those problems.

It actually did change in Word 2002, in which you could not specify the
format of deleted text except by using a macro or Registry edit.

Right, it was a bug -- excuse me, an oversight -- in the dialog in that one
version, but the functionality was the same. Still, if Ted remembers being
able to print just the bars, then he didn't see the mangled 2002 version,
and 2003 works the same as 2000.
