Printers Disappeared After XP2 Installation

After SP2 was installed my printers disappeared. When I tried to add a
printer I got a message saying that the print spool service was
unavailable. When I tried to use the print troubleshooter I got a message
saying something about unsafe ActiveX. I could not proceed in the
troubleshooter. When I went to the Windows Update Web site my
installation history could not be read (Error 0x800A0046). I disabled my
popup software and got the same results. What can I do short of
reinstalling XP?

It sounds like the installation did not complete correctly, you should try
uninstalling SP2 as per http://support.microsoft.com/default.
aspx?kbid=875350&product=windowsxpsp2

Check you computer for any malware as per
http://www.palmersoft.co.uk/virusfaq.htm

Then try reinstalling SP2
