printerdriver

Recently I have removed a (non-used) printerdriver. Since that time, at
every boot, I get a "wizard found new hardware" window. How can I get rid of
this?

Unplug the printer?

The printerdriver for the current printer is still present (and is the
standard driver).

How did you "remove" the old driver? Did you uninstall the printer
according to protocol, or did you just delete some files?

It sounds like Windows is confusing your current printer with the
previous one. I might try such things as uninstalling the current
printer, reinstalling the old driver, then uninstalling it, then
installing the current driver again.

If either the old device or the new one is a muti-function one
(printer/scanner/fax), maybe you uninstalled the printer part, but
other drivers are still in effect. Or, similarly, maybe you haven't
installed all the drivers for your new device.

Are there any yellow flags in Device Manager?

You don't give us much to go on. The make and model of the old and new
devices might be helpful.

I went to start - settings - printers & fax window, where all printerdrivers
are displayed. I right-clicked the redundant driver and chose "remove". (as
translated from dutch) As far as I know this is official way to remove a
printerdriver...

I have what they call an ancient simple HP deskjet 720C (parallel port).

I removed a driver for HP Deskjet 722C.

Sounds like it was only removed from the printer ' window ' not from the
computer .

Many printer drivers are also listed in Add/Remove Programs. I've
always assumed that uninstalling it there would be more thorough than
just Removing it from the Printers applet, as it would get any other
"helpful" utilities that are sometimes installed with the driver. Do
you see the old driver and/or it's ancillary programs there?

What happens when you go ahead and let the bootup Windows Found New
Hardware wizard continue and complete itself?

What for? PrintDrivewrs don't take too much space and they don't normally
interfere with anything else.

I wanted to clean up unused items. Instead I got a mess.
In Windows one has many options. Trouble is around the corner when you
actually try to use them...

I'm led to new windows where I'm asked to specify locations for (a driver?).
But I don't want to install any driver.
