Printer slowdown following sp2 update

After updating XP Professional from sp1 to sp2 the time it takes to access a
printer connected to a Windows 98 computer on our network has gone up
dramatically (takes many minutes on some documents) -- what would cause this?
What changes do I need to make to get thye system back to the former, short
times.
