Printer Sharing

Alice

Hi All,
I have a desktop computer running XP Home with SP2. Attached to that
computer I have a Canon Printer. I would like to share my printer with my
Laptop running the same system. I have the SP2 Firewall on both computers
enabled. I have a Belkin router which makes
a wireless connection between the two computers. I have read a lot on how
to share a printer but nothing seems to work. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Alice

There are a couple of things to watch out for. First, some printers don't
work (or not properly) over networks. Be sure to check with the
manufacturer regarding your specific model.

Second, some print servers will *not* work with XP Home, because Home does
not support the protocols needed. Be careful of this when choosing a print
server!

Finally, try to share the printer by browsing the network from the laptop to
the desktop, locating the printer, right clicking, and choose Install (or
add printer - I'm not at an XP machine). This can work when the Add Printer
dialog does not.

I haven't come across any Canon printer yet that won't work over a network.
