Printer sharing on wireless network

I bought a new Vista machine to replace my oldest computer. The new machine
is wired to a wireless router and has a USB cable to the HP printer. It
prints fine using the built in driver in Vista, but the other 2
machines(both XP) on my wireless network can not "see" the printer to add it
as their default printer. This was working fine when the previous XP
machine was being used. I did turn on printer sharing, and the 2 XP
machines can share other files, etc. They just don't see the printer. Any
ideas would be much appreciated. Gateway told me it was a Vista problem and
Microsoft told me to call Gateway. Only wasted 3 hours on the phone. UGH!

Alan,

Thanks for your post. I'm sorry for the trouble you're experiencing. There
are some changes in Vista over XP around sharing and access for a more secure
system (by default). The below TechNet article explains these improvements,
and shows you how to change settings to allow for device access and file
sharing. Please review these and follow the steps and let us know if this
doesn't work for you:

Thanks

Thanks for the help. Turns out it was the last step. The new Vista
computer had McAfee firewall preinstalled. When I turn it off, everything
worked again.

Alan Muster,

That's good news. Firewalls should be at the top of that article.

Thanks for the feedback
