Printer not printing since Windows 2000 updates installed

I have a HP Deskjet Printer 640C which uses the USB
connection port. My operating system is Windows 2000.
Since updating my system with all the security and other
updates from the WWW.MICROSOFT.COM website for WINDOWS
2000 my printer no longer prints. When I send a document
to the printer, the printers red lite will blink for a few
minutes then the following error message is displayed - "
There was an error found when printing document". I
checked the HP site and I do have the correct drivers. Is
there something additional I need now that I have updated
my operating system?

Thanks

I need to stress that I scan information. I don't memorize
it. I didn't install SP4 because of the bad press. SP3
continues to work fine for me.

In certain circumstances, after upgrading to SP4, some
applications or device drivers might not function.

You may want to consider uninstalling, clean the registry
& after a reboot, re-install.

That's my personal take on buggy drivers & apps.

Luck
Doug
