Printer doesn`t work with GW-BASIC

[Old timer new to Windows]

I have a copy of GW BASIC 3.22, dated 1987. Yes it`s
been a long time. I find that Windows XP and GW BASIC
don`t communicate with the printer from BASIC using
LPRINT. The printer works fine in every respect with XP,
it`s a Hewlett Packard 2100 seies.

This problem is one where you don`t know who to ask,
since I`m still in the Commodore 64 era with the BASIC!

If I were you, I'd drop GW-Basic and try using VB Script instead (which is
built in to XP). XP will not permit DOS applications direct access to
hardware, including the printer port, so you have no chance of getting
GW-Basic to work correctly I'm afraid. Besides, it's a fairly primitive and
very obsolete language now so you really would be better off changing to VB.

VB script is a good place to start and then I'd work up to VB .Net. It's
not a difficult language to learn and is SOOOO much more capabable,
especially in a Windows environment...
