Print to File

Phil

How do I print to a file? The ability to setup a generic
text printer has existed in earlier version of Windows
(Using XP pro) however I cannot seem to get it to work
correctly. If I create a test file in word then attempt
to print to a file name it saves the file in a prn file
format which cannot be opened again by MS Word.

Does anyone know of a way to send the print job to a
vertual printer so it can be saved on HD in text or word
format?

Thanks,
Phil

I don't know exactly what you tried so allow me to describe the usual
procedure to create a printer file:

Install the driver for the printer for which you want to write the file. In
this case, install the Generic/Text only printer driver. (Local printer
attached to this machine. Uncheck Automatically detect....) Select file
as the port.

Select this printer as the default printer.

Open the document in the application and print.

Let us know.
