print screen

Hello,

I am trying to Print Screen in XP. This is the "prt scr"
button on the upper right-hand section of the keyboard,
right? Mine doesn't do anything when I press it. Also, ALT-
prt scr doesn't work. My computer is brand new and I can't
find a setting that applies to this function. Any
suggestions? Thank you.

PrnScr does NOT send ANYTHING direct to the printer. It sends an image of
the screen to the Clipboard... you then open Paint or your favorite graphics
program, Paste that image in and the print the image.

Print Screen takes a 'picture' of the whole Screen and
whatever happens to be Open upon it

ALT+PrintScreen takes a 'picture' of just the Active
window

Having done either of the above - Open the Paint Program
and do Edit\Paste - there is your Picture

Now File\Save As - Name it and Save as a .jpeg to My
Pictures or wherever you want

after pressing print screen open wordpad and paste into
wordpad. alt-print-screen inside a window and paste into
wordpad works real good for keeping track of dialog
window settings.

I knew it had to be something simple. Understanding the
concept is everything. Thanks.

Thanks. I knew what it was supposed to do; was just
expecting something to change on the screen (new window or
something). Thanks for your help.

If you just hit the "Print Screen" key, all you have to do is open Paint,
and choose 'Paste' and then print it from Paint.

As far as I know all the "Print Screen" key does is 'Copy' a snapshot of the
desktop to the clip board.

Greetings --

Pressing the <PrtScn> key copies the entire display to the
clipboard. Pressing <ALT>+<PrtScn> copies only the active Window to
the clipboard. To view the screen capture, open a graphics program,
such as MS Paint, and press <CTRL>+V. This will paste the contents of
the clipboard (your screenshot) into the open file, and allow you to
view it or save it as a file for later use.
