Hi! I would just like to ask if there is a directory in Windows Xp SP2 where
in print screens are automatically saved, or I still have to open an image
viewing/editing software to save it manually?

Print Screen goes directly to Windows RAM memory (clipboard) first,
unless you install some type of third party PS tool.

You must open some time of image aware application. Word can view
this image.

The print screen key only copies the screen to the clipboard.
You have to then paste to some application, like word, mspaint,
photoshop, etc.

There are tons of 3rd party screen capture programs that handle the
printscreen key much better. I use HardCopy Pro, it allows you to
immediately drag a rectangle area of the screen to capture rather than
the entire screen. I know of others that capture then let you crop.
Google for 'print screen' for suggestions. Some are even free.

I can't answer your specific question, but this freeware tool uses the Print
Screen button. You can crop the screen so you just get what you want, and
Save sends the screen shots to a user designated folder you create. It is so
much easier and takes only a few seconds to take and save the shot.

In addition to the others posting their favorite program for screen capture,
I will give you mine and it is http://www.wisdom-soft.com/sh/sh_free.htm
Screen Hunter 5.0 free which is a free program, easily configured to either
capture to an auto-incrementing file where you name the root filename or to
the clipboard or both. It allows automatic capture of the full monitor, the
active window or the user selectable (with mouse) area. Saves the images in
either .gif, .jpg. or .bmp formats in the location you specify. I am not
affiliated with the company in any way other than a free user.

Print screen, by default, goes to memory. Then you have to paste in a
graphics app to view/edit the image. I use Irfanview.
